️ Formatting Text and Paragraphs in MS Word

1. Text Formatting Basics

Formatting helps make text clear, attractive, and easy to read.

a) Bold, Italic, and Underline

  • Bold (Ctrl + B): Makes text darker and thicker.
    • Example: Important Word
  • Italic (Ctrl + I): Slants text for emphasis.
    • Example: Emphasized Word
  • Underline (Ctrl + U): Draws a line under text.
    • Example: Highlighted Word

2. Paragraph Alignment

Alignment controls how text is positioned across the page.

  • Left Align (Ctrl + L): Lines up text to the left margin (default).
  • Center Align (Ctrl + E): Centers text in the middle (good for titles).
  • Right Align (Ctrl + R): Lines up text to the right margin.
  • Justify (Ctrl + J): Aligns text evenly on both left and right margins.

3. Line Spacing

Line spacing adjusts the space between lines of text in a paragraph.

  • To change line spacing:

1.     Select the text/paragraph.

2.     Go to Home → Line and Paragraph Spacing (icon with up/down arrows).

3.     Choose spacing (e.g., 1.0 = single, 1.5 = moderate, 2.0 = double spacing).

4. Practice Example

1.     Type this sentence:

Microsoft Word makes document formatting easy.

2.     Apply the following formatting:

o    Make Microsoft WordBold.

o    Make documentItalic.

o    Make formatting → Underlined.

3.     Center-align the sentence.

4.     Change line spacing to 1.5.
